Managing Insects in Turf
Insects can wreak havoc on a lawn! These issues often go undiagnosed or unnoticed until it is irreversible. Fortunately, all of our technicians are trained to identify these issues and are always on the lookout when treating your lawn. Some examples of turf destroying and nuisance pests are:
- Japanese Beetle Grubs
- Cutworms
- Sod Webworms
- Chinch Bugs
- Armyworms
- Billbugs
- Ants
- Ticks
- Fleas
We take an approach that is called Integrated Pest Management, or IPM. This consists of several cultural practices that are used to limit the necessity of a chemical application. Some of the steps in this program are:
- Use a proven fertilization program to promote the health and vigor of the turf
- If damage occurs, make sure it is from an insect and not a turf disease
- Proper pest identification
- Figure out an acceptable level of infestation (our certified professionals can help with this)
- If necessary apply a specific insecticide to mitigate the problem
- Follow up with proper cultural practices and monitor progress
If you are experiencing signs of damage that you can’t seem to identify, give us a call. Our technicians can identify the issue and develop a plan with you on how to manage the infestation. If necessary we can provide you with an estimate for an application that will alleviate the stress of these damaging and noxious pests.
